Chico Buarque is very famous in Brazil. His father, Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, was a jornalist, historian and even helped to start a political party. Chico is a musician and a writer. During Brazil's dictatorship he wrote a lot of song criticizing it, but in a way that would pass trhough censure. His last book (2015) is "Irmão Alemão" (in a free translation to english: The German Brother). His songs are very rich in meaning, sounds, poetry... unfortunatelly we can't translate and keep it all. Here, I've tried to keep the poetry, hope you enjoy it!

Chico Buarque - A noiva da cidade / The fiancé of the city/Lá nobia de la ciudad
Tutu – Marambá* don’t come here anymore The child’s mother will command to have you killed Tutu – Marambá* don’t come here anymore The child’s mother will command to have you killed
Oh, how this young girl is careless With the window wide open She wants to sleep unpunished Or, maybe, up there she can listen to the shock of the people’s heart Oh, how much carelessness of this girl Her dad is working in a farm And her mom went for a walk And every marmanjo* of the city Wants to join her in a lullaby To become a Tutu-Marambá.
Oh, how this girl is distracted Who knows if she’s dressed Or if she’s seamless sleeping She knows very well that when she fall a sleep She’s stealing Other people’s sleep
Oh, how mean is this girl And, don’t let somebody hear us, she knows how to bewitch Because every marmanjo of the city
Wants to join her in the dreams that she likes to dream And be a Tutu-Marambá
Ox, ox, ox, ox with a black face Take this kid that fears a grimace
*Tutu Marambá: The boogeyman, a monster that scares kids. This song starts talking about it *Marmanjo: A teenager, almost an adult that is trickster, lives in the night, etc.
